Hand carved & Hand finished in Haiti, Distributed by Raymor (Ne w Yo rk). Mid-20th century Ame ri can vintage original, authentic early Modernist designed decorative objects & teak serving trays. 19 1/4" Width x 9 1/2" Depth x 1 Height.
For sale is this rare and simply wonderful signed Arthur Umanoff for Raymor (from The Taverneau Collection) mid-20th century vintage signed elliptical shaped teak serving tray, featuring hand woven rattan flat cord side lifting/carrying handles and shallow, curved sidewalls. It was fashioned in Haiti for Raymor and is stamped'Made in Haiti' on its baseplate. The tray is nearly as originally constituted, with perhaps a slight abrasion on one of its upper edges, which isn't so much a flea-bite, as it's a'touch. Yet still, the serving tray is close to pristine and is nearly immaculate, with no scuffs, deep abrasions, cutting marks on its interior basin or broken, missing or frayed rattan cord. It's also free of unsightly, depreciating stains, light or dark. It looks to have been perhaps gifted to someone (most likely its previous owner) and was clearly seldom, if ever used.Although its interior form is oval in its design, its overall shape is decidedly elliptical, with its peculiar angularity, a signature of Arthur Umanoff's Modernist forms, separating his Ame ri can design from Scandinavian ones, which were softer and less angular in their conceptual attitude. Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition.
