Set Of 9 Antique Japanese Meiji Wood & Lacquer Obon Ozen Serving Tray & Bowls
This is an antique Japanese late Meiji Era c. 1910 serving set of nine (9) pieces, including a serving tray called an Obon or Ozen , and a set of six (6) lacquer bowls, two (2) of which come with a lid. This would have been used to serve an individual person some tea and/or small appetizers.

The ozen has four curved feet to raise it above the tatami floor. The set is made of cryptomeria wood with over 20 coats of Japanese black lacquer with a gold lacquer top trim. Having been used lovingly for over a century, with the exception of minor signs of past use (lacquer shrink, lightening of lacquer in places, separation in the wood, see enlarged pictures). A few pieces of felt have been added to two of the legs to make it stand perfectly level (see picture 6). The larger lidded bowl is not perfectly round.

The bowls have makie (raised gold lacquer) along the rims, there are a few chips in the gold on some of the bowls. The tray measures 12 1/2" square by 5 3/4" tall (32 x 14.5 cm).

The bowls measure from 4 3/4" (12 cm) to 3 3/4" (9.5 cm) in diameter and from 1 1/8" (3 cm) to 3 3/4" (9.5 cm) in height. A very elegant and functional piece of art to display your treasures. You'll love it , I guarantee it.........
