Mid Century Modern Sanka Yki Nummi Designed Wood and Molded Plastic Serving Tray. Offering a sleek, handsome modernist tray made of teak wood and molded plastic by Finnish designer Yki Nummi for Sanka Finland. It measures 19 3/4" in length, 9 3/4" in width, and 1 in height. It is in excellent condition with little or no signs of use on the board and no damage to the molded plastic frame and handles, although there are a few scuffs at the corners.
This is a very unusual tray and I could not find another like it anywhere on the internet which may mean that it was designed as a prototype. Was born in China to a missionary family. Nummi studied in Finland and after graduating from the University of Art and Design Helsinki, he was hired as a lamp designer for Orno. His most famous products are the timeless icons Modern Art table lamp and Skyflier pendant lamp. Most well known for his lighting and plastic materials, he won the gold medals at the Milan Triennial in both 1954 and 1957.
