Antique Victorian Marquetry Tray Serving Butler Wood Ornate Chip Carved Handmade
A marvel of handmade design from the Victorian era! All handmade, and each separate piece of wood in the surface was individually laid in by hand to form a geometric pattern. The flower in the center is also inlaid with separate pieces of wood. The different pieces are different types of wood- bird's eye maple, mahogany, ebony, cherry, walnut, etc. The edge of the tray is beautifully carved with handcut chip carving in an hourglass pattern. Two handles also have chipcarved design. Sized 14 3/4" long x 10 1/2" wide x 1 1/2 deep. Has some wear due to age and use.
No breaks in the wood. Some wear to veneer surface, some rubs, some crackling in some of the inlaid veneer, but no lifting. ALL HANDMADE and each veneer piece, different types of wood that together form a pattern, laid in separately by hand. Later repair to hold base into place with metal clips.
Excellent for use or display. Could be fitted with glass to protect the wood if desired. This will attract a lot of attention.
